Emmanuel de Merode, Chief Warden and Head of Virunga National Park
Emmanuel De Merode is the chief warden of Virunga National Park. He grew up in eastern Africa and gained a deep affection for its mountains and vast savannas.He trained as an anthropologist and came to the Congo as a young researcher in 1993. He started working in Virunga in 2001 at the height of the second congolese war. In 2005 he co-founded Wildlifedirect an organization that puts its efforts toward helping wildlife rangers in dangerous and remote locations. The congolese government gave Emmanuel the opportunity to lead Virungas 680 rangers.

Marlene helps the virunga national park with training hound dogs to fight off trespassers, and helps train bloodhounds for tracking poachers away from the mountain gorillas from any danger. |

Balemba Balagizi is the head of the Briquette Program in Virunga National Park. In his spare time, he is the head of the Virunga Youth Association. His main purpose for working at VNP is is to educate younger people the importance of conservation.
