Solar energy
The DRC is a rural and barren place, for the small villages and towns it is hard to obtain power for simple things such as lighting, heating and air conditioning, and access to water. Innovation: Africa is an Israeli non profit organization that has given solar panels to schools, hospitals, and helped dig an aquifer. The aquifer helps an orphanage by giving it access to clean water. Local hotels and lodges use solar energy as a natural power source to run their buildings and utilities. ("Bringing Solar Power and Hope to the DRC") Solar energy is also used for an electric fence that is 19-kilometers long, running along the forest boundary. It provides a painful enough shock to keep humans and animals away from the fence. ("A Beautiful Electric Fence") Although solar is natural and beneficial for the environment, it can only produce electricity when the sun is out. Solar panels only produce so much energy to use. Some day may have rain or an overcast, that makes the panels unable to make energy. The addition of wind turbines with the solar panels will produce clean, natural energy. Both have limitations alone, but the use of them together will maximize the energy output.
